Our Library

Every child has access to our library via each classroom being timetabled to have a 30 minute block of time in the Library every week.

Our catalogue of books provides a massive range of fiction and non-fiction titles and local and international authors and contexts to suit all ages, interests and abilities.

We have an online catalogue (AccessIt) which can be accessed at any time, which helps students, teachers and whānau to see what we have available. Students use Access-It to search our catalogue when in the library via three search computers.

  • Reservations of a specific book can be made via Access-It.

  • A student will need to know their “borrower number” which can be obtained via HERO as it is the student’s ID number, if they want to reserve a book

  • Students can construct and share a review of all books to better support future readers and their decision about what their next book will be. This is similar to the function that Public Libraries follow. These reviews are moderated by staff before sharing.

Students and parents are welcome to provide suggestions for future book purchases (students - talking to the school librarian and parents - emailing the school librarian - Tracey Welsh twelsh@stanmore.school.nz).

Reading Challenge

This school wide initiative for Year 5 and 6 students is another way we encourage our students to challenge themselves in reading different texts to broaden their understanding.

This challenge operates on a tiered system (bronze, silver, gold and platinum), where students need to read eight different genres by eight different authors.

Students that are interested in participating in this challenge are required to see the school librarian before starting.
