Our Curriculum
At Stanmore Bay School, the curriculum is designed by the team of teachers within that Whānau and discussions are had across the Leadership Team and with other staff working across the school to ensure continuity of the programme and a smooth transition to each level of the school as the students move to the next whānau.
We follow and plan from the New Zealand Curriculum. The New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) provides a vital framework for comprehensive education. Emphasising key competencies such as critical thinking and effective communication, we are also able to shape a holistic learning experience for students. We also use the PB4L and Mitey philosophies to support this development.
Inquiry-based learning methods are employed, encouraging deep exploration of topics and honing essential skills like research and problem-solving. Additionally, by using the NZC, our learning promotes cultural diversity and inclusivity by incorporating local contexts, where possible, and cultural knowledge into our lessons, ensuring that students from various backgrounds feel a sense of belonging.
Moreover, the Stanmore Bay School in conjunction with the NZC prioritizes student well-being, and fosters a positive and nurturing environment. By focusing on mental health, physical activity, and healthy relationships, our staff ensure that students not only excel academically but also grow emotionally and socially. This emphasis on well-being, combined with inquiry-based learning and cultural inclusivity, equips students in Years 0 to 6 with a well-rounded education, preparing them for future educational challenges and successes.
We have a Literacy and Mathematics Coordinator who support our teachers by sharing best practice and upskilling teachers with examples of learning engagements that provide the best outcomes for students with the given curriculum area. We also provide a Music Specialist and Drama Specialist for students to participate in during their classroom programme.
